Metal‐catalyzed C−H functionalization reactions have emerged as a key tool in the synthetic chemist′s arsenal. The emergence of non‐precious metals (nickel, cobalt and iron) as suitable catalysts for these transformations can be compared to the use of a classical, simple hammer to split and functionalize C−H bonds as shown in this image.
