The Smiles rearrangement has been revived in the recent literature as a method of preparing diverse sets of molecules containing aryl functionality. Recent progress in heteroatom arylation, in particular, has been a key enabling step for this chemistry, as O, N and S‐arylation can now be reliably achieved to set‐up aryl transfer through Smiles processes. In their Minireview on page 8992 ff., C. M. Holden and M. F. Greaney discuss recent advances in Smiles chemistry.
