A highly efficient novel method for the construction of the core tetracyclic motif of numerous biologically active indole alkaloids was described. The cyclization precursors were easily prepared from tryptamine derivatives in five steps with excellent yields. The full potential of the developed method was demonstrated by the synthesis of Büchi ketone, a well‐known intermediate in the synthesis of vindorosine.
