Bismetal complexes of [26]hexaphyrin that show strong near‐infrared‐region absorption are reported by A. Osuka and H. Mori in their Communication on page 7007 ff. [26]Hexaphyrin(1.1.1.1.1.1), bearing two 5‐formyl‐2‐pyrrolyl groups at the 5‐ and 20‐positions, was prepared and shown to form a helix‐like structure held by effective intramolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions between the meso ‐pyrrolyl groups and the hexaphyrin core. Metalation of this hexaphyrin with Zn II , Cu II , and Pd II salts proceeded smoothly at ambient temperature to give the corresponding bismetal complexes that exhibited remarkably redshifted absorption spectra in the near‐infrared region.
