A new type of optical nanothermometer has been designed for biomedical applications. The nanothermometers are comprised from a fluorescent sensor and a fluorescent reference encapsulated in a nanoshell. The role of the nanocapsule shell around the fluorophores is to form a well‐defined and stable microenvironment to prevent factors, besides temperature, from affecting the temperature reporting. These nanothermometers, with excellent sensitivity across the therapeutic range 25–85 o C, could find broad applications in controlling thermal ablation procedures in medicine.
