The silver complex of an abnormally bound, anionic N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) can be transmetalated to ruthenium. The resulting ruthenium complexes are rare examples of anionic NHCs on ruthenium. Although Ru binding to the abnormal position of the carbene is observed in the complexes Ru(IDipp‐BF 3 )( p ‐cymene)(L)Cl (IDipp‐BF 3 =1,3‐(2,6‐ i Pr 2 C 6 H 3 ) 2 ‐2‐BF 3 (C 3 HN 2 )‐4‐yl), abstraction of chloride results in the unprecedented binding of the carbene via the methine position of the IDipp‐BF 3 ligand.
