Ionothermal synthesis : Ultrathin (∼4 nm) few‐layer nanostructures of Bi 2 Se 3 and related chalcogenides have been prepared by green ionothermal synthesis. The ionic liquid acts as an intercalating and stabilizing agent in addition to being an efficient solvent for the synthesis of few‐layer Bi 2 Se 3 (see figure). High electrical conductivity and minimal thermal conductivity optimize the thermoelectric properties of few‐layer Bi 2 Se 3 .
