Parting water! Direct splitting of pure water into H 2 and O 2 under visible light ( λ >400 nm) was achieved by using a modified TaON photocatalyst with d 0 electronic configuration. Modification of a less‐defective TaON (ZrO 2 /TaON) with core/shell‐structured RuO x /Cr 2 O 3 nanoparticles and colloidal IrO 2 was found to be indispensable to achieving the reaction (see figure).
