Synchrotron radiation and imaging photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopy were used to investigate chemical bonding in a borylene complex. The Cr–B bond stayed intact even at the highest photon energies after the sequential loss of all CO ligands, demonstrating its stability. Appearance energies and bond dissociation energies were determined by fitting a simplified statistical adiabatic channel model to the experimental fractional ion abundances and dissociation rates as a function of ion internal energy.
