Trapping in mitochondria : A ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the detection of mitochondrial Zn 2+ was synthesised and evaluated on the basis of inhibition of resonance. The sensor, with good selectivity and high sensitivity, can quantify the free Zn 2+ level in mitochondria, and can be used to visualise the mitochondrial Zn 2+ change in living cells (see figure).
