Intensely fluorescent azobenzene derivatives, featuring an intramolecular N–B interaction that was confirmed by X‐ray crystallographic analyses, emit intense green, yellow and orange fluorescence. Their application to fluorescent vital stain visualization of living tissues was investigated by microinjection into Xenopus embryos, suggesting they are nontoxic towards the embryos.
