It's all in the grinding : A 1D double‐zigzag framework, {[Zn(paps) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 } n , was synthesized by the reaction of Zn(ClO 4 ) 2 with paps (see structure in scheme) in a layer method. A similar reaction, but in which dry solvents were used instead, led to the formation of a 2D polyrotaxane framework, [Zn(paps) 2 (ClO 4 ) 2 ] n . Both structures can be interconverted by heating and grinding in the presence of moisture and a remarkable luminescent mechanochromism in the transformation process is also observed by monitoring their luminescence images.
