From green to red : Highly water‐soluble superparamagnetic monodisperse ferrite colloidal spheres with tunable size and composition have been prepared by a simple one‐step hydrothermal method. The zinc ferrite colloidal spheres show composition‐dependent saturation magnetization. Surprisingly, the Z 0.41 Fe 0.59 Fe 2 O 4 colloidal sphere aqueous suspension can be used for constructing photonic crystals (see figure).
