Getting cagey : Dimerisation and coordination to lithium ions was observed after the reaction of the cage [P 2 {(SiMe 2 ) 2 O} 3 ] with Li[Al{OC(CF 3 ) 3 } 4 ]. The obtained complex ion [Li§P 4 {(SiMe 2 ) 2 O} 6 ] + can be decomposed by addition of THF yielding the free dimeric ligand [P 4 {(SiMe 2 ) 2 O} 6 ].
