A series of soluble and stable bisanthracene bis(dicarboxylic imide)s M1 – M4 were synthesized that display intensive absorptions in the NIR region. The fully fused bisanthracene carboximide M1 exhibited absorption maximum at 830 nm, with a significant 130 nm bathochromic shift in comparison with the partially fused anthracene dimers M2 – M4 .
