Magic number 14! Re 4 Si 7 is the first complex structure outside of the Nowotny Chimney Ladder series recognized as adhering to the 14‐electron rule. Its structure is based on Si vacancies in the MoSi 2 structure pattern clustering into periodic edge‐dislocations (see figure). Coincident with its 14‐electron count is a pseudo‐gap in its electronic density of states.
