Bringing synthesis into the 21st century! How can nitrogen heterocycles be synthesized today? An overview of modern methods for nitrogen‐heterocycle formation is given. Chemists can now use readily available materials combined with CH bond functionalization to prepare common nitrogen heterocycles.Nitrogen heterocycles are abundant in natural products and pharmaceuticals. An emerging interest among synthetic chemists is to use CH functionalization to construct the nitrogen‐containing core of these heterocycles. The following article will provide a brief overview of this concept with respect to the type of CH bond functionalized.
