Water and water only : A novel allenylation reaction of alkynoates was found to take place “on water” by using inactivated propargyl alcohols as allenylating reagents (see scheme). This reaction proceeds by selective sequential insertion of two different alkynes, which might be as a result of the leaving group (‐OH) on one of the alkyne molecules.
