At the Z3 office‐building of Ed. Züblin AG, in 2017 186 architecturally designed photovoltaic modules with a total capacity of approximately 30 kWp have been integrated in the south façade, replacing the existing structural sealant glazing without visible mechanical fasteners. In this paper, the architectural and structural process for this challenging construction project is presented. One focus lays on mechanical tests for the qualification of the module interlayer performed at TU Dresden, which in future construction projects can support the approval procedure for the installation of structural sealant glazing without mechanical fixtures up to a height of 18 m.
