The purpose of this paper is to minimise the cost of steel telecommunication lattice self‐supported towers by using V shaped hot rolled steel profiles. Comparative analyses were carried out for different tower heights using different configuration of V shaped and L shaped hot rolled steel profiles. An elastic 3D truss finite element model was used to determine the axial forces and stresses in each member under wind and various antenna load cases. Strength and serviceability limit states were controlled according to ANSI/EIA/TIA‐222‐G (addendum 2) during design stage. For the cost optimisation, both production, manufacturing, installation and material costs were addressed. During manufacturing stage, there are many obstacles to manufacture V shaped steel profiles, but the results indicate that the minimum cost solution corresponds to V shaped steel profiles.
