The Penha da Barroca Bridge is a railway bridge that is under construction and is within the framework of the Beira Baixa railway line modernization project which itself is a key part of the Atlantic Corridor that concerns Portugal, Spain, France and Germany. All foreseen interventions in this railway line were also identified as priority investments by the National Stategic Plan for Transports and Infrastructures – time‐horizon 2014‐2020 (PETI3+). The bridge is closely to Guarda and is composed by steel latticed columns supporting a steel‐concrete composite deck. The steel component part of deck corresponds to a steel truss and the concrete component part is guaranteed by a concrete slab over which will be settled the rail track (ballasted track).
