The opening of the Hålogaland Bridge December 2018 marked a milestone for modern suspension bridge design. It is an example of how technical knowhow is innovating the design of suspension bridges, in particular cable structure design. This paper will explain the overall design of the bridge with specific focus on the cable structure design including the main cables, anchorages, saddles and cable clamps. Furthermore, the construction of the bridge will be briefly mentioned focusing on the challenges of constructing such a major landmark structure in the extreme environment more than 300km north of the Arctic Circle.
