In a recent publication, Faber ( J. Chemometrics 2000; 15 : 171–190) criticizes the use of a jackknife procedure as proposed by Bijlsma et al . ( Anal. Chim. Acta 1998; 376 : 339–355). It is shown that this criticism is not correct. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
