Evolving factor analysis is used to estimate the concentration profiles and spectra of Bi 3+ and the bismuth chloride complexes BiC1 2+ through BiCl   6 3−formed by injection of bismuth perchlorate into a flowing stream of 1·0 mol 1 −1 HCl. The estimated spectra compare favorably with previously published spectra of the complexes.
