Si anodes generally suffer a tremendous volume variation during lithium alloying/dealloying reactions, resulting in severe mechanical fractures and side reactions. Therefore, managing the volume change remains a critical challenge for practical application of Si anodes in LIBs. Diverse strategies for accommodating the volume change of Si anodes are reviewed and perspectives and challenges for future research are presented. More details can be found in the Minireview by J. Cho et al. on page 1645 in Issue 11, 2015 (DOI: 10.1002/celc.201500254).
