Thermally stabilized combustion has a number of unique characteristics which permit the generation of steam or other forms of process energy from the heat of combustion of a gaseous or clean liquid fuel in remarkably compact, integrated apparatus while truly minimizing the concentrations of NO x , CO and unburnt fuel in the effluent. These characteristics, which have been identified by a long‐range program of research, are described and the advantages and limitations of this process are discussed.
