Long term integrated bioenergy strategy. Copyright: Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige GmbH (DBFZ) For the transition of the energy system towards renewables, a long term bioenergy strategy is necessary. Therefore, we developed an approach, which investigates the national situation, but also includes the global biomass use as well as different sustainability issues using the example of Germany. We identified four major elements for a national bioenergy strategy including the policy framework, the resource base, and the bioenergy application fields. The results underline the need for land use policies on a global level.
