The methodology of structured multiscale process design offers a unique opportunity for challenging interdisciplinary theoretical and experimental research in an European context, capable of leading to significant improvement in industrial competitiveness in the process industries. In addition, the new approach should have a lasting impact on the teaching of chemical engineering and industrial chemistry, and should contribute to the attractiveness and acceptability of the chemical process industries as well.
