The separation mechanisms of the filter aid particles without the influence of an overlaid suspension filtration are investigated. The differences of filtering precoat layers on different filter media are discussed and their effects on precoat particles in filtrate are shown. The horizontal flow velocity component causes a stabilization of the particle bridges close to the supporting filter medium and lowers the filtrate concentration of particles originated in the precoat layer.
