There is only little theoretical knowledge about the influence of viscosity on the separation performance in distillation tasks. The aim of this work was to investigate the qualitative dependence between the viscosity and the separation performance of a distillation column and to find out at which loads a distillation column can be operated with high‐viscosity media. The results of investigations with viscous systems in a lab test column contribute to design distillation processes more exactly for high‐viscosity applications.
