Mothers and adolescents differentially evaluate the effectiveness of different reasons for hypothetical parental requests and for adolescent noncompliance, described according to a domain model of social‐cognitive development. Mothers and adolescents also differ in their judgments of the likelihood of particular justifications and of whether these justifications will lead to conflict.
