Abstract When investigating the impact of social transition on deprived and nondeprived adolescents, one should consider the abruptness of the change, other simultaneous transitions, and the availability of at least one unchanging arena of comfort. More research is needed on the short‐ and long‐term effects of impersonality in the social context and on the effects of the proximate environment.
