The Cover shows synthetic applications of putrescine transaminase (pATA) biocatalysts, which allow access to heterocyclic building blocks from simple diamines. In their communication Slabu et al. probe the substrate scope of a known pATA from E. coli and two new family members from the Bacillus species, first reported here. The utility of this transamination step is subsequently demonstrated via the chemo‐enzymatic synthesis of a Ficus septica tree antifungal alkaloid, starting with the decay by‐product putrescine. More information can be found in the Communication by I. Slabu et al. on page 1038 in Issue 6, 2016 (DOI: 10.1002/cctc.201600075).
