Stand aside, potatoes! A mononuclear manganese(III) complex [Mn III (L) 2 (OAc)(AcOH)] ( 1 ) exhibits catechol oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen by generation of a hydroxyl radical with a turnover number of the same order as that of catechol oxidase from sweet potatoes.
