Two steps to aromaticity: Aromatic compounds such as phenols represent a common structural motif in nature and they are of great demand in chemical synthesis. Owing to the lack of possibilities for substitution on the aromatic ring system at the meta ‐position, phenols were rather expensive and their production environmentally unfriendly. The advances in catalytic aerobic dehydrogenation of CH bonds are a new approach to make them easily available from cyclohexanones.
