Key Clinical Message Acute suppurative thyroiditis is a serious disease; therefore, its diagnosis in the acute phase is important. Fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid gland plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of acute suppurative thyroiditis. Appropriate culture technique and optimal imaging modalities are also important for its diagnosis.
