Key Points Angiographic assessment to determine adequacy of stent expansion is unsatisfactory with approximately half of stents being underexpanded when evaluated by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Adequate stent expansion is significant higher using IVUS, ranging from about 70–80% depending on the definition of stent expansion used. This study showed that using the diameter of the external elastic membrane distal to the lesion to size stent diameter and postdilatation with a noncompliant balloon appears safe and provides improved stent expansion in lesions with positive remodeling.
