Key Points Lesion preparation prior to stent implantation is of paramount importance to acute and long term clinical outcomes in patients with severely calcified coronary artery disease. The current study renews the interest in the use of cutting balloons as an adjunct to atherectomy. The study reinforces the vital role of intravascular imaging in accurate anatomic and morphological characterization of calcified plaques, to influence treatment strategies.
