Abstract As increased accountability is demanded of community colleges at the same time that state funding is being drastically cut, presidents must still maintain high standards of teaching and learning while looking for new means of fundraising. Strong support from boards of trustees is necessary for successful governance, which itself relies on effective identification and communication of educational and revenue challenges. This chapter examines some of the challenges as well as some of the avenues to success for effective governance and fundraising under these difficult circumstances.
