Abstract The authors address the institutional context, goals, philosophy,external constraints, and assessment implications of the general education program at Piedmont Virginia Community College.They offer four pieces of advice for institutions beginning their work in general education– namely, owneship, turf, larger external connections, and curricular restructuring.
