Psychotic disorders are among the most costly and emotionally devastating mental health conditions. Although typically conceptualized as an adult disorder, psychosis often emerges in adolescence, and earlier onset is associated with poorer prognosis. Not surprisingly, longer periods of untreated illness have been linked to poorer clinical, functional, and cognitive outcomes. This indicates a critical need to bolster symptom recognition and early treatment efforts to maximize recovery and minimize the personal and financial sequelae of illness.
