Natural disaster is defined as “severe disruption, ecological and psychosocial, which greatly exceeds the coping capacity of the affected community.” The COVID‐19 pandemic meets criteria for a natural disaster in its potential for collateral damage to mental health for children and adults. The economic downturn, job loss, financial stressors, day‐to‐day disruptions to life, and barrage of frightening news is challenging for all of us, and more so for those suffering from mental illness.
