This month, a group of us from Brown are in Kenya working with AMPATH on an exchange with psychiatric colleagues — a project described in a previous commentary (April 2018). In early February, a North American primary care physician and a Kenyan psychiatrist, under the direction of the Indiana University Center for Global Health, received a large grant from the Astellas Global Health Foundation. The grant proposes to address mental health disparities in Kenya via integrating mental health services into AMPATH's system for chronic disease management as well as working to increase awareness of mental health needs.
