Individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) have a higher likelihood of psychiatric conditions than the general population. Estimates vary, with some studies finding up to a fourfold risk of having a co‐occurring psychiatric disorder. Common comorbid diagnoses are generalized anxiety, specific phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and mood disorders. Psychiatric medication is often prescribed to address these clinical needs of children with ASDs. However, it is often difficult to identify psychotherapy services for these children.
