Don't harm children by shaming them for obesity; stigma doesn't work, says AAP

While it is beneficial to health to lose weight if one is obese, “weight stigma” does not help, a recent article in Pediatrics states. In fact, stigmatization of people with obesity, especially young people, causes harm. The Section on Obesity of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a policy statement on weight stigma, noting that words can harm, in an article published online Nov. 20 in Pediatrics .
