Unlike adults with bipolar disorder (BD), adolescents with the condition are no more likely than controls to be overweight or obese, researchers have found. However, adolescents with BD who are obese are three times more likely to attempt suicide or have major depressive disorder than controls without the disorder. In addition, all teens with BD have the risk of becoming adults who are obese.
