In September, the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved OxyContin for the treatment of pain in certain pediatric patients — those whose pain is “severe enough to require daily, around‐the‐clock, long‐term opioid treatment and for which alternative treatment options are inadequate,” the FDA said in announcing the approval.
