A powerful carbohydrate receptor , which can be seen as a “synthetic lectin”, has recently been developed by Davis et al. The meta ‐terphenyl‐based tetracyclic receptor was inspired by carbohydrate‐binding proteins, and was designed to provide both polar and apolar contacts to a disaccharide molecule.
