Enantioselective alcohol oxidases : Variants of galactose oxidase have been identified that catalyse the enantioselective oxidation of (±)‐1‐phenylethanol ( ee =99 %) and a range of related substrates, although the wild‐type enzyme shows no activity towards this class. The active‐site R330M mutation is considered important for binding of the aromatic ring of the substrates.
