Killing them softly . The in vitro elimination of malaria parasites with biomimetic oligomers is described. Antiplasmodial activity and varying hemolytic and prehemolytic effects were observed with a α‐peptide–β‐peptoid chimera that selectively perturbed Plasmodium falciparum ‐infected red blood cells (IC 50 21 μ m; see figure). The fact that structural variations can result in different profiles of antiplasmodial versus hemolytic/prehemolytic effects opens new possibilities in peptidomimetic research.
